recent thoughts pt. 2

We are officially in our independent study period and I am personally somewhere in between a world of knowing my next steps but also being confused, and perhaps slightly terrified.

I was recently in Marrakesh, Morocco by myself for five days. I had the opportunity to visit the Banksy Museum, a street artist who has had major success combining the intersection of political and social contexts, while creating interventions that have left a profound impact worldwide.

The exhibition really helped me realize alternative approaches I can take in my work. I have been so overwhelmed and thinking that there is only one method I can follow in the design of my intervention, but I am reaching the point where there doesn’t have to be any “one specific way” for how this goes.

I think that realization has allowed some of the fear in this whole process to slowly go away. I was so stuck thinking that it has to be a strong project that makes sense to everyone, but it doesn’t need to make sense to everyone because it’s not for everyone. And that is okay.

Whomever my true target audience is, it will reach them somehow someway. And that is all that matters in the moment - what I think is the best way to showcase my research whilst expanding my creative practice.
